The Benefits of Vaser Liposuction

What Is Vaser Liposuction?

Many people don’t realize that there are actually numerous types of liposuction available in the market. The act of liposuction, regardless of its variations, has remained essentially unchanged since its inception. During the process the fat is literally sucked out from under the skin using a small hollow tube called a cannula.

Vaser liposuction differs from its predecessors  in how the fat is prepared prior to the liposuction procedure. This technology simplifies the process of liposuction often providing better results for the patient as well as a simpler procedure for the physician. This type of liposuction, while new, has proven to be a “go to” procedure for patients as well as physicians.

How Does it Work?

In vaserultrasonic liposuction, the fat is prepared before surgery by injecting a saline solution into the treatment area. This makes the treatment area tumescent (swollen or engorged). This solution often serves two purposes, first it is mixed with local anesthetic to help ease the pain and discomfort of the procedure and second it helps by allowing the fat to be mixed within the solution to speed the removal of the deposits during your procedure.

Once the treatment area is filled with the saline solution the vaser ultrasound device is introduced. This device uses high frequency radio waves to help emulsify and breakdown the fat deposits. These deposits breakaway from the skin and mix with the saline solution so that their eventual removal is a more streamlined process.

Supporters of the ultrasonic vaser liposuction procedure state that this method gives more even results. It allows for more even removal of fatty tissue from the treatment area.  This translates to a more contoured look with smoother muscle tone on the treatment area. Areas like the infamous love handle region come out looking naturally smooth and follow the normal contours of the body.

What are the Risks?

Traditional first generation liposuction techniques (or dry liposuction) suctioned the fat from the body in its natural state.  This often resulted in uneven fat removal. This tended to result in dimpling of the skin and uneven pockets or depressions in the skin.  Unless the surgeon was very skilled, the results were often unsatisfying to the patient.

There was also more risk associated with the surgery.  Original liposuction patients were often asked to donate blood in the weeks leading up to their procedure so that it could be transfused back into them during their procedure. Original liposuction patients experienced more pain, edema (fluid filled pockets beneath the skin) and bruising when compared to patients opting for the vaser liposuction technique.

While common place liposuction is not without its dangers. There is a heightened risk  of fatty embolism, regardless of the procedure you opt for.  This would occur when a small piece of fat inadvertently entered into the blood stream and caused a clot or emboli.  If the emboli were to break loose in the blood stream and find its way into the heart, head or lungs severe injury and even death could occur.

What are the Benefits?

The vaser liposuction system has been constantly tweaked and even redesigned to offer the consumer the best possible outcomes.  This procedure is well tolerated by the majority of people and is minimally invasive.  This allows for the patient to return to work shortly after having had the procedure, typically five to seven business days. By breaking the fat down into a liquid form, the procedure minimizes disturbance to blood vessels, muscles and nerves that are in the areas.

The vaser liposuction  procedure is far less painful and the patient experiences less swelling and bruising.  The procedure is done under a local anesthetic so the patient is not exposed to potential side effects of general anesthesia. Typical side affects include bruising and discomfort in the treatment area, mild bruising and sensitivity around the incision sites. Vaser liposuction is so well tolerated that patients are able to walk in and walk out same day of the procedure.

The benefits of vaser ultrasonic liposuction allow the patient to have the procedure performed in sensitive areas that other liposuction techniques cannot easily handle.  Areas such as the chin, neck, inner thighs and arms are routinely treated using this new technique.  Of course, it works great on larger areas of the body where typical liposuction procedures are performed. Vaser liposuction works well for both men and women, delivering the same consistent result.  The procedure is accredited by the FDA, speaking to its safety and efficacy, lending credibility to the overall procedure.

What does Vaser Liposuction Cost?

Vaser ultrasonicliposuction costs vary depending on a multitude of factors. Geographic location of your procedure can play an important role. In addition the number of areas treated and the amount of tissue removed can also have an impact.  For one treatment to the love handle area, a patient can expect to pay between two thousand and three thousand dollars.  There are opportunities to save though, many physicians will offer a combination price if you are getting more than one area treated at a time.  Since very few people only want one area done, the physician gives you a competitive price to treat multiple areas during the same procedure.

What to be Aware of?

Any time you are contemplating getting plastic surgery it is important that you take the time to find the right plastic surgeon for you. Many time people will spend more time picking a car then they will a plastic surgeon.  It is important to verify that the physician is a board certified plastic surgeon and can provide you with references from patients he or she has previously performed the procedure on.

Checking to confirm that the surgeon and the facility you have the procedure performed in are insured is also a critical step in protecting you in the event of an adverse event. While commonplace vaser liposuction is not without its dangers, you should always proceed with caution when undergoing cosmetic surgery. Take your time to understand the risks and you will likely be happier with your ultimate outcome.
