The Top 5 New Liposuction Procedures
What’s New In the World of Liposuction?
Liposuction has been an evolving art over the past twenty years. The procedure went from a clumsy, barbaric, potentially life threatening procedure to a commonplace plastic surgery procedure that millions have undergone successfully each year.
There have been, and will continue to be a myriad of new liposuction procedures rolled out over the course of the next few years, keeping track of them can be tricky and confusing. Understanding the differences in these procedures can help you and your plastic surgeon determine what procedure is best for your individual needs.
What are the Top 5 New Liposuction Procedures?
1) “Accusculpt” is one of the newest entrants into the world of liposuction. This procedure takes an existing form of liposuction (laser liposuction) and makes it better. This procedure uses a higher powered 1444 nm wavelength laser. This allows for a higher level of precision when targeting fat deposits.
Developed and approved by the FDA in 2010 this improved procedure allows for your plastic surgeon to have a greater degree of accuracy when targeting fat for removal. This allows for less collateral damage to surrounding tissue. Ultimately this leads to a quicker recovery with fewer complications.
2)
“Water Jet Assisted Liposuction” is an interesting variation of the more traditional tumescent liposuction. Both methods use a saline solution mixed with lidocaine (anesthetic) to help in the removal of fat deposits.
With Water Jet Assisted Liposuction, the solution is injected into the treatment area under mild pressure. This pressure allows for the solution to literally dislodge the fat deposits from the wall of the dermis (skin). The solution and loosened fat is then removed using the traditional liposuction method. This new liposuction procedure offers less bruising and swelling to the patient while also making the overall procedure affordable given the lack of general anesthesia.
3) “Smart Liposuction” is another name for laser liposuction. While this procedure has been on the market for a few years it is still one of the most popular of the new liposuction procedures. As discussed earlier laser liposuction is a popular option for both patients and surgeons alike.
The procedure allows for the surgeon to more easily target the problem areas for the patient, making their removal an easier process. This procedure has been streamlined in recent years making the procedure that much more successful and effective. In many cases this procedure can be done on an outpatient basis with the patient returning to normal life within a few short days.
4) “Lipolysis” is one of the more controversial procedures on the market today. The procedure while sounding like a liposuction procedure is actually minimally invasive. This procedure involves the injection of a solution under the skin which is supposed to dissolve fat deposits and remove them from the body using the liver and digestive system. The solution injected is a combination of soy bean derivatives and bile salts called PCDC (Phosphatidylcholine & Sodium Deoxycholate).
It should be noted that this procedure is not FDA approved. This ensures that the procedures overall safety and efficacy has not yet bee proven by the U.S Government. The concerns regarding this method is that the PCDC solution has no consistent proportions for the two ingredients. This could lead to wild variation between one application to the next. Many scientists and physicians are still debating if the procedure actually works the way many of its proponents claims it does.

5) “Ultrasonic Liposuction” is a procedure that has been on the market for a few years, but has become a favorite by both physicians and patients alike for its success and dramatic results. This procedure can be performed either internally or externally by using ultrasonic technology (using high frequency sound waves) to emulsify fat deposits.
Once the fat deposits have been treated with the ultrasonic technology they are more easily removed using the traditional liposuction methodology. This procedure is best used for hard to target places like the love handles, neck, or back. This new liposuction procedure helps to cut down on recovery time and helps keep cost down given the lack of general anesthesia.
